History

When Thiruvithancore, Kochi and Malabar were the provinces of Kerala, the northern end of Thiruvithancore was called "Ariya Ooru". It is at present known as Aroor. It is at the northern end of the Alappuzha district. St Augustine's High school situated in Aroor had played an important role in shaping the cultural heritage of this village. The present school is the result of the visionary leadership that guided the parish of St Augustine's, Aroor.

In 1908 St Augustine's Lower Primary school was established under the guidance of Rev Fr Raphael Fernandez, the Vicar of the Parish. The school was really a blessing for the people of the village.

St Augustine's English Medium school was started by Rev Fr George Menezes on May 22nd 1923. His strenuous effort to enhance the power of knowledge and education is praiseworthy and memorable. The Education Director of Thiruvathancore sanctioned to start a preparatory class with 25 students and it began to function on the ground floor of the Vicarage. When Rev. Fr. Alexander Edezhath was the Vicar (1947-1952), the Upper Primary school was upgraded to High School. Thus in 1952 St Augustine's High School became a reality.

In the Great Jubilee Year 2000, by the order G.O (MS) No.244/2000/G. Edn. dt 27-6-2000, when Rev. Dr. Francis M J Fernandez was the Manager of the Corporate Educational Agency, the school was upgraded to a Higher Secondary school. The headmaster of the High school, Mr Rajan Babu was given the charge of the Higher Secondary section too. The first batch consisted of 128 students in Biology, Computer Science and Commerce.

Realizing the need of a new building for the school, Rev. Dr. Josey Kandanattuthara the then General Manager of the Corporate Educational Agency laid the foundation stone for a three storied building on 19th March 2001. The new building was blessed and inaugurated by Rt. Rev. Dr. John Thattumkal, bishop of Cochin on 25th April 2004. An additional batch was sanctioned to the school as per the request of the Management in 2011 in Humanities Group with the following combination: Economics, Gandhian Studies, Communicative English and Computer Application.
